Every person I've spoken to has just complained about the state of the story but moreso than that how the difficulty keeps getting higher and higher, characters are worse and worse, and it's making them hate their lives. How the heck does that make sense to anyone? If you are an RPG with a STORY then that STORY KINDA MATTERS you can't just "vault" it away new players wont have any clue what is happening even slightly. From what I've been told a lot of the story aspects, including previous DLC's campaigns I grabbed for cheap are vaulted and not able to be played anymore. For a "MMORPG" I have literally zero clue what is going on in the story even remotely. He would grind this game so hard, so when I did get my upgrade and I could play it uh. So I only recently got into Destiny 2 because I got a PC upgrade and for several months beforehand I constantly heard from my boyfriend all the stuff he was doing in it that he was really enjoying. Till then i cannot in good conscience suggest this game to any new players. OH! speaking of aspects and fragments! Did you know, that in order for a new light to gain, every aspect, fragment, and BASIC ABILITY, for EVERY LIGHT-CLASS, they would have to gather 975,000 GLIMMER? its absolutely absurd!! This builtin gate keeping(call it what it is) system needs to be cut immediately, and the new Light experience is in desperate need of an fundamental overhaul. new lights don't unlock sub-classes, Armor mods, sub-class fragments, and fragments till Guardian rank 4. Before i could just Sherpa new lights half way through the tutorial and the game would open up, but now with GR its literally 1984. and with the update and the addition of guardian ranks its only gotten worse. i have a hand full of friends that wanted to get into d2 over the year due to the release of WQ and LF, and only a Quarter of them made it through the absolute SLOG that is the tutorial. The new player experience is absolutely abysmal, and such a poor representation of the game at large.

which makes it all the more frustrating that i can't wholeheartedly suggest this game to friends who would like to get into it. the lore, gun/ability play is fun, the art and design is beautiful, and the build crafting and player expression are all a chefs kiss out of 10. i have read every lore book, done every raid and play every class.
